Keep it Flea Free!

When you have a dog in your house and he has started shaking his head too frequently and has also been scratching his head like mad, you better know what is wrong! The fleas have caught up to him too!!

Need for flea control!

The flea is a carrier of a tapeworm, which is a parasite. The tapeworm is known to dwell in the small intestine of the pet and it eats up the health of your pet. These tapeworm segments could be found in the excreta of your pet in a few days following the infection. The eggs of the tapeworm are found in these tapeworm segments, thus acting as a carrier for the unborn tapeworms. In this way it could affect human beings too. Further, the tapeworm causes swelling and uncomfortable body pain for your pet.

The flea menace!

The fleas ride on your furry friend’s body without their knowledge and cause them to scratch! The female flea, which is the wreaker in chief, lays up to half a thousand eggs in its life time. These eggs would lie on your pet’s body and would get disseminated throughout your household as your pet moves along inside your house. The eggs then develop into a larva. The larva develops into a pupa and now it can fly on its own. If the larva turns out to be female, add another five hundred eggs to your household! You better start preparing a guest room for them! To evade these uninvited guests from your house, your pets should be kept away from places where fleas are likely to breed. Once the fleas reach the pupa stage it becomes tougher to control the infestation.

How to get rid of them?

Apart from causing irritation and itching to your pets, making their life wretched, the fleas can cause tapeworm disease and also infest your family members with some diseases. If you are thinking about giving them a guest room, be sure to know about these diseases, they could cause.
While most veterinarians would advise you to follow flea control procedures regularly to kill these fleas in their larval stage, sometimes the infestation gets out of hand. Here are some steps to get rid of the impish fleas!

Give your pet a regular bath, even though they don’t like to make a habit of it! Usage of pet shampoos, which contains pesticide, is a good idea. Use of pest control sprays regularly in your household is a must. The dwelling places of the dogs, especially their beds, should be cleansed to remove any flea eggs.

When your whole house looks like it’s being flea infected, you must call for professional help to decontaminate your house with chemicals! Flea collars could help to fight the fleas from infecting your pets.

Chemical anti flea agents like borax are extremely potent both to fleas and to human beings. The use of borax could control the flea population from expanding by killing the eggs. But even a small amount of borax is harmful and care should be taken, if borax is to be used in a house where kids live.

From your pet’s point of view, borax could cause irritation, oily furs, chemical burns and even poisoning. Some animals that are allergic could be found developing rashes, sneezes and coughs. It is always better to consult your vet regarding flea medication as most flea medications are specific to particular kinds of animals and could cause adverse effects when used with other animals.

Flea control is a must if you want a house free of tapeworms and scratching pets!
