Heartworm Medication
Ways to Cure Heartworm Disease!
Heartworms are round worms that are capable of affecting the health of our pets by settling down in the right ventricle of their hearts! Mosquitoes onto the body of your pet transport these heartworms.
Consult With Your Vet
Before you treat your pet with heartworm preventives, it is better that you consult with the vet to see if your pet has not already been infected by heartworm. If it turns out that your pet is already infected by heartworm, it could be dangerous to treat them with heartworm preventives.
This is because of the way in which heartworm medication works! The preventives tend to look for larval roundworms in the pet’s blood stream, which is the first sign of infection. The heartworm medication kills those round worms and leaves them at the blood stream to be absorbed by the pet. But a pet showing signs of infection would contain adult worms, which could not be killed by preventives, and even if killed, the adult worm should not be left to lie in the bloodstream as they would decompose and emit chemicals that are toxic to the pets.
Which One To Use?
There are a variety of pet heartworm medications to treat the infection of heartworms in pets. The vet must be consulted before giving any sort of medication regarding heartworm to pets, as most of the heartworm medications are potent!
While medication is the doctor’s way of keeping your pet healthy, you on your part should keep your pet clean and away from mosquitoes!
